I have heard of an inspiring example of community mobilisation around a 
local cinema closure...in the NSW country town of Leeton in the 
Riverina the local Roxy Cinema was being sold.

Individual community members were offered to purchase a seat each at 
$600 as a means of purchasing and maintaining the cinema as a cinema 
...which now runs on a part-time basis...details are sketchy but more 
detail could be sought
