FLUXUS OPENS FIFTH FILM COMPETITION ON-LINE WITH 51 WORKS FROM 17 COUNTRIES.

International Film Festival on the Internet radicalizes contemporary cinema
concept and shows microfilms, short films, digital video, animations, flash,
web-art, video-mobile, and videoblogs as new possibilities of the language of
the moving image.
Fluxus - International Film Festival on the Internet - www.fluxusonline.com -
celebrates its 5th anniversary presenting its most radical edition. The
festival definitively incorporates all forms cinema-making: the cinema of short
films, portable, intense, abstract or poetical, the cinema of the interaction
between technology and the art of web-art works.
In this fifth edition, Fluxus is sponsored by PETROBRAS.
Fluxus 2005 brings 51 works in competition divided into four categories: 14
experimental short fiction films in E-cinema; 18 animations in the ANÉMIC
category; DOC, presents 7 documentaries; and 12 interactive and web-art works in
the INTERACTIVA. Those productions come from 17 different countries: Brazil (11
works), Germany (6), U.S.A. (6), Canada (5), France (5), Hungary (3), Cuba (3),
Switzerland (2), Holland (2), and with one work each, Poland, Belgium, Colombia,
Australia, Argentina, Spain, England and Romania.
The audience can vote until June 19th at the website of the festival
www.fluxusonline.com. All the 51 productions are in competition for the Best
Film trophy chosen by the public. In each category, one work will be awarded
with the Best Film trophy based on the choice of the Online Jury, formed by
Austrian video-artist Christa Sommerer, French curator Isabelle Arvers and
Angolan artist and curator, living in Holland, Miguel Petchkovsky Morais.
Beyond the works in competition the festival shows an informative, non
competitive exhibition called FUTUR_0: web|mobile|micro films that intends to
point new trends to the audiovisual: videos made with cameras of mbile phone by
Australian Melinda Rackham, portable films to be distributed for the Internet by
Japanese Haruo Ishii, and the experimentalism between sound and image by the
Brazilian group ODDQEM, and tips to vlogs (videoblogs).
Fluxus is the oldest active festival in the Internet and keeps on-line all the
works that had participated of its five editions. Added to new 67 works of this
edition, the site brings 258 productions now (videos and net-art).

E-Cinema > Fiction or video art? Narrative or experimentalism? This category
chose 14 different works and brings since experienced film makers like renowned
American videoartist Leslie Thornton, till the distinguished technical skill of
German Lo Iacono, the noir horror by Belgium Rafäel, to the newest conceptual
work by Brazilian Carlos Magno, and young national directors such as Joana
Oliveira, Isabela Tozini and Louise Ganz.

Anémic > Internet and animation, a perfect marriage. The category brings 18
animations made with different techniques (3D, stop motion, traditional
animation, etc); eight of them were made in Flash, like the three funny
Hungarian selected animations. Some works by directors who had already took part
of former editions of Fluxus must be seen, like Germans Marc Hermann and Jochen
Ehmann, and Dutch Stefan van Dinther.

London; subway passengers in different cities in the experimental video by David
Crawford and the relation between Brazilian writer Pedro Nava and Cuban film
maker Santiago Alvarez in Biography of Time.
