The Northern Territory Environment Centre says not enough scrutiny has
been given to the approval of transporting yellow cake uranium on the
Adelaide to Darwin railway line.

After a three-month trail, WMC Resources has been given a one-year
licence to transport the material from South Australia to the port of
Darwin.

The centre's Peter Robertson says the worrying scenario is the expansion
plans WMC has for some its projects.

"The Olympic dam uranium mine in South Australia is on track to expand
by a major amount and that will mean there'll be more and more yellow
cake being put on the train and ending up at Darwin Harbour, so that's
an issue of great concern to us," he said.
