National Action Against PT Freeport Indonesia

===================
“This proposal is submitted to our friends around the world in order to support this National Action Agenda by AMP-Demmak on 34 October 2003 in Jakarta, in front of the Freeport Indonesia Office”
===================

Background

PT. Freeport Indonesia since its official operation began in 1972 (exploration started in 1967), there have been a series of problems that caused continuous sufferings of the habitat around the mining areas. It has destroyed the natural environment, social environment, culture, and other inhabitants. It has destroyed the livelihood of all beings there, in addition to various violations of human rights against the traditional people, fully supported by the military and foreign agencies.

The presence of PT. Freeport Indonesia in Papua Soil has caused mass displacements, forced resettlements, taking over the land without proper treatments to the tribal peoples using the military to dictate what the company wants for its business activities.

Various military and intelligence operations that cause severe damages to the nature and the suffering of the people have been justified in the national interests of the state of Indonesia for the sake of national development.

Freeport McMoran, Inc. has been playing very significant roles and dirty games in the political life of West Papua. The USA’s interests have sacrificed the fundamental and inalienable rights of the Papuan people early 1960s (during the so-called Act of Free Choice that was manipulated by the USA through the UN). Legalised and illegal businesses carried out by the military have been allowed and even funded by Freeport Indonesia with justification to secure the national asset. The collaboration has sacrificed the lives of many people, the nature and its resources.

Therefore, as part of our efforts in defending democracy, human rights and the absolute as well as universal truth, we, the Alliance of Papuan Students and the Koteka Tribal Assembly (Demmak) would like to launch our protest against Freeport McMoran, Inc. in front of Freeport Indonesia office in Jakarta on the time abovementioned.

We therefore, would like to ask for your kind support for this to happen.
