The
outcome of meeting between Papua Presidium Council (PDP) and all components
struggling for the independence of West Papua (CEB
reporting from Port Numbay, 14 October, 2000)
Considering the position of the Indonesian
government to lower down the Papuan Flag “Morning Star”, the meeting made
the following commitments:
- That
the Morning Star Flag will not be taken down in Papua land forever,
- That
the Government of Indonesia, Papua Province should sign an agreement
regarding the status of the Flag and the conditions to lower down the Flag
which will be proposed by the PDP.
- That
Papuans will not lower down the Flag ourselves. Let the Indonesian police
and army do it if they want to do it with force. Papuans will sit on the
Flags and eye-witness what the Indonesian police and army will do.
- If
the Indonesian police and army are persistent and violent, then PDP should
propose an option to lower down the Flag, but with respect and afterwards,
the Indonesian government should sign an agreement to allow Papuans to hoist
their Flag in special ceremonies like the Independence Anniversary, the
resurrection day of the Papuans, the day of declaration of Papuan identity,
The Day of Papuan Historical Congress, etc.
Tomorrow, Monday 16, 2000 all Papuans in Port Numbay
will go to the Regional House of Parliaments in Port Numbay for a demonstration
against military repression and to push the government to agree to sign
agreements between the PDP and the Indonesian government. (The Outcome?)
