Port Numbay is filled up with Tribal People in response to the Order from the Commander of Port Numbay Resort Police to Remove the Satgas Papua Office, (1 November, CEB Reporting from Port Numbay) (Back to This Months' Index)
Thousands of Papuans, mainly Penis Gourds (Koteka) people filled up the Imbi Park (Taman Imbi) today in response to the Order from the Police Commander of Port Numbay Resort. Most of them are Port Numbay residents under the Penis Gourds Troops Commander, TM. They are also accompanied by the Commander of Papua Task Force (Satgas) and the Satgas Papua Commander for Port Numbay. They started filling the park since last night. Until this morning, the park is full and almost caused chaos.
The letter said, "The Governor asked us to remove Satgas Papua Office because the Governor wants to use the building for activities related to the arts and tradition of people in West Papua. The Papua Arts and Cultural Building (DKIJ) was the previously called Sarinah Building, where the First Papua Congress was held in December 1, 1961, in which the Papuan emblem, the Papuan Flag and Papuan identity were introduced to the people and announced to the public.
Our reliable source from the Penis Gourds (Koteka) People's Assembly Council (Demmak) reported that Demmak held two meetings on 30/10/00 and 31/10/00 respectively to discuss the people's response to the intimidating letter from the Port Numbay Police commander. "At the same time, Theys H. Eluway, the Chairman of the Papuan Presidium Council (PDP) held a tribal meeting in his village, Ifale, attended by all Onodafies (Tribal Leaders) and Ondofolos (Big Tribal Leaders) from Mamberamo and Tami (MAMTA) region. The agenda and minutes of the meeting are still confidential," the source added.
The Papuans are ready to see how the Police act and how they repeat their past mistakes by murdering the innocent civilians. Demmak released a letter of protest and public notice yesterday (31/10/00). In the letter they announced places for civilians to take refuge and urged the Indonesian government to open a National Dialogue to resolve problems in West Papua. Papuans have been demanding a dialogue approach and urging Indonesian government to form a special commission to resolve the issue but so far Jakarta ignored it. Jakarta did response to such a demand from Acheh. Jakarta stepped into the civil war in Molucas. But it does not care about Papua so far.
Many times Indonesia acted brutally against the people's freedom of expression started when the former military dictator, Suharto stepped down July 1998. The response of the people has been blamed so far. For example, in Wamena more than 40 people murdered after police chain-sawed the Papuan Flag "Morning Star" and killing members of Satgas Papua.
The New Papua is different from the Old Papua. This era is the era of transparency and openness. Mr. Abdurrahman Wahid declared himself as the Father of Indonesian Democracy and Human Rights. The reality says different. Tens of Papuans have been murdered after Wahid came into his Presidential office. In Nabire, Maroke, Manokwari, Sorong, Port Numbay and Wamena. (ceb)
