AMP Numbay Reporting, 28 October, 2002

Benny Wenda was removed from the Police Custody to Abepura Prison, no one is allowed to even see him

Translation with some modifications by AMP International, Collective Editorial Board of the Diary of Online Papua Mouthpiece (www.westpapua.net)

Greetings in the truth that we hold, and we are not going to step back.

On the 26th of August, 2002, at 12:00 local time, our friend Benny Wenda was moved from the Police custody to the Abepura jail (some 20 km from Jayapura).

Even though Benny's families and relatives asked to accompany or meet hm, no single person was allowed. The police strongly prohibited us to see him even.

Whereas the guards will be from Papua Provincial Police (Polda Papua) and guards from the prison themselves. There will be intensive interrogations and examinations on the charges on him:, i.e., the brain behind Abepura attack, 6-7 December 2000 and owning two parsports from two different countries.

There was an advice from someone in the office of provincial court in Jayapura to write a letter asking permission for his families and relatevis to meet Benny. But we are asking your advice if we should do this or not.

The information we received today is that Benny is now not at the police custody anymore, but at the prison of Jayapura Tribunal (Tahanan Kejaksaan). Let us know what legal route we should take to help our leader.

Yours sincerely,

AMP Numbay
