March 26, 2002 KPN report findings in Theys' alleged murder case JAKARTA (JP): The National Investigators' Commission (KPN) met with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday to report the team'spreliminary findings in the alleged murder of Papuan rebel leader Theys Hiyo Eluay, a report said.
The team also said that so far they have not obtained any information about the involvement of members of the Army Special Forces (Kopassus) in the alleged murder.
"We haven't heard of such information. We don't know anything about it. Who said it was from Kopassus? I haven't heard such a thing," a KPN member, National Police Detective Corps commander Insp. Gen. Engkesman Hillep said.
It was also revealed that KPN would send investigators to Papua for the third time to continue the investigation. Members of the team to depart to the province are Koesparmono Irsan, Zulkarnaen Yunus, Djasri Marin and Engkesman Hillep.
After the meeting, KPN chairman Koesparmono Irsan said that there had been a lot of progress in the investigation, but he refused to elaborate.
"We are still pondering on several possibilities as well as working on all information related to the alleged murder. But we have not found leads to the suspect," Koesparmono said.
Papuan rebel leader Theys Hiyo Eluay was found dead in his smashed car on the outskirts of the Irian Jaya capital of Jayapura in November last year. |
