General Situation

The Papua Council Presidium rejected the finding results of the National Investigation Commission and the Military Police on the murder of its leader Theys Hiyo Eluay, and demanded the government to clarify the motives and the mastermind of the killing. The Presidium deemed the killing a serious human rights violation and suspected that some government institutions were implicated. Papua Military Commander Maj. Gen. Simbolon said he never issued an order to kill Theys.

Health

UNICEF allocated Rp1.5 billion (US$153,000) to the Maternal and Child Survival Development Programme in three sub-districts in Biak Numfor.
