Papuan Representatives Heading to Jakarta to Meet Mega-Hamzah
Government
To Ask for International Intervention into the
Assassination of Papuan Independence Leader and Tribal Elder,
the Late Ondofolo Dortheys Hiyo Eluay on 11 November 2001
AMP Spokesperson for International Community Reporting:
What you can do:
1. Be ready with letters of protest to Megawati-Hamza
Regime;
2. Be ready to write letter of support to the statement and
request from the Papuan representatives.
===========================
Dear all,
Yesterday, 1 June 2002, a group of 7 Papuans arrived in
Jakarta in the afternoon, and now staying at Hotel Sriwijaya
Jakarta, nearby the President of Indonesia Palace.
Tomorrow, more than 7 Papuans will arrive and will stay at the
same hotel.
The purposes of the visit are:
1. To refuse the finding of the National Investigation
Commission (KPN) that Theys' assassination is an act of
criminal;
2. To formulate Papuan people's view on the murder of Papuan
independence leader and tribal elder;
3. To publicly invite the International Community to intervene
into the fully manipulative lieas by the State-Terrorist
Indonesia. Papuans want the international community to
proactively and wisely act before the next East Timor
bloodbaths begin, and before the human rights situation in
West Papua worsen.
Background Notes:
We have been patient for months now and we want to tell the
world that we have hearts, minds and feelings. We are humans.
The world should be wiser to understand that state-terrorism
in West Papua should be brought to an end, in the names of
democracy, human rights and legal supremacy.
The world should not give any place in the world to
state-terrorism and state-terrorists. Ignoring or deliberately
forgetting state-terrorists is absolutely unwise, and
state-terrorists are in fact more dangerous than Osama bin
Laden's networks. If the US attacked countries that harbour
terrorism, it should also consider wisely to sort out
state-terrorists themselves, not only those that harbour
terrorists. Justice should prevail in our war against
terrorism in this planet.
State-terrorism in West Papua started decades ago, and the
world still ignores the plea of the Papuan people. The world
also in fact acted very late in responding to humanitarian
crises in East Timor. And the world is now repeating its
mistake by ignoring or expecting more horrendous violations of
human rights.
